About The Polished Pooch

The Polished Pooch, Collierville TN dog trainer, dog training
Our goal is to teach owners understand and interpret their dog's behavior, then how to obtain a more desirable behavior through socialization, behavior modification, and obedience training. Our program is founded on a choice-based training system using positive reinforcement. Its unique design allows us to create the absolute best curriculum for your individual dog's needs. Temperament, genetics, age, sex, general health, history, and owner experience play an important part in formulating each training curriculum.

We offer drop off style training Monday – Thursday. Each visit includes a one-on-one consult with our trainer. Consult sessions are scheduled in 20-minute intervals beginning at 2:00pm with the last available session at 5:40pm. During these sessions we demonstrate training concepts introduced and/or reviewed, answer questions, and assign follow up homework. Homework is designed to make training easy to understand for both dog and owner and encourages a positive working relationship.

"My main focus is helping you bring out the best in your dog!
My program teaches owners how their dog learns and why they behave the way they do.
I will work as fast (or as slow) as each owner/dog team needs when introducing obedience concepts, establishing behavioral boundaries, or addressing social concerns."

The Polished Pooch's History

The Polished Pooch originated in Germantown, TN and was founded by Meridith Wilburn over 13 years ago.  Meridith has had numerous successful careers but nothing that stole her heart like her childhood passion for animals. As a child she idolized and absorbed every second spent with her father as he worked dogs. For over 30 years he trained, bred, and trialed retrievers winning multiple champion titles.
Passing on his gentle nature and love for training, Meridith was molded into an exceptional handler.
From a young age she was fascinated with canine behavior and their instinctive learning.

Throughout college, Meridith worked at a local animal shelter as an animal care technician and assisted with animal control. To gain additional experience she began working as a veterinary technician at Forest Hill Animal Hospital. During her ten years here she furthered her education to become certified, was promoted to lead surgical technician, and was routinely requested to help owner’s solve behavior problems with unruly dogs.
After recognizing her training skills, the hospital’s doctors encouraged her to follow her childhood passion and began training dogs full time. Meridith started this venture by leasing kennel space from the hospital. This entrepreneurship grew quickly over the next year then opened their own facility and have been serving clients across the Memphis area ever since.
The Polished Pooch's training program is still one of the few veterinarian recommended training programs in the area.
